SUMMARY
North Highland is seeking a Senior Data & AI Engineer at the Senior Consultant level. These roles will develop, test, deploy, and support reliable data transformations and analytics-ready datasets using advanced SQL and dbt. The engineers will work with technical and business stakeholders to translate requirements into maintainable data models, improve data quality, and support dependable delivery in a client-facing environment.
YOU WILL:
- Design, develop, test, and maintain SQL transformations and dbt models.
- Translate business and analytical requirements into clear source-to-target mappings and scalable data models.
- Create reusable dbt components, tests, documentation, and lineage that improve reliability and maintainability.
- Investigate data-quality, reconciliation, and performance issues; identify root causes and implement durable corrections.
- Participate in code reviews, version-control workflows, release activities, and production support.
- Partner with analysts, engineers, and client stakeholders to communicate status, risks, dependencies, and technical decisions.
- Document data definitions, transformation logic, operating procedures, and support considerations.
IDEALLY, WE'D LIKE:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or similar role.

Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.

Extensive experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redshift).

Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and data warehousing solutions (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery).

Strong knowledge of ETL tools and frameworks (e.g., Apache Airflow, DBT Snowflake).

Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).

Solid understanding of data security, compliance, and governance principles.

Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD practices.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Expertise in identifying complex data challenges, evaluating options, and implementing scalable and effective solutions.

Proficiency in translating technical concepts into business value and effectively engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
